Reflecting on the amazing experience of working with AWS Game Tech.

As is the case for all tech companies out there, cloud services are absolutely essential for our operations. We rely on the Cloud to store a vast library of user-generated clips; to build app feeds and chat rooms; and generally to host the backend and AI architecture that make up the backbone of our app.

Historically, we’ve relied on several cloud computing providers to ensure smooth functioning of Powder. One element was not quite perfect though. We needed a more suitable Content Delivery Network (CDN) — a tool to accelerate the download of our video assets — as the one we used at the time lacked detailed monitoring and granularity settings. After reviewing several alternatives, we settled on the network powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the following reasons:

  • Technical excellence: Amazon’s CDN provides a high degree of transparency and flexibility needed to optimize our processes thanks to the key settings, configuration and monitoring features.
  • Outstanding customer service: From the start, our team has been assigned a personal account manager and a tech lead from their AWS Game Tech team. They provided customized training sessions and continuous client support to get us familiarized with the solution in record time.
  • Unique subscription package: AWS offers several subscription options depending on the maturity of your business and tech needs. Ours consisted of an upfront fee, which in the long run results in a substantial reduction of price per video served. This allows for real economies of scale and incentivises growth, both of which are key for Powder at this stage of our development.

Taking stock, Amazon has been a fantastic partner, demonstrating a strong interest in supporting the gaming ecosystem and its actors, from startups to AAA studios and top-tier esports teams. For companies like ours that lack the time and/or resources to develop all of the tools internally — and need some real assistance in invigorating their expanding tech infrastructures — AWS might very well be a perfect fit.
