We couldn’t be more humbled and thrilled that Powder is one of the five apps named “Ones to Watch” by Apple across Europe in 2021.
We first published Powder to Apple’s App Store in April 2020 during the first wave of lockdowns, when there was a lot of fear and uncertainty. As was true for so many, gaming and our community helped us feel connected. That first version of our app was co-created with our Discord community. With their feedback, we launched and iterated on which features should stay, which should go, and which new ones could surprise and delight gamers and creators.
What we learned was that gamers who wanted to share their greatest wins or most epic fails with their friends and audience were spending hours and hours recording on one device and downloading and paying for expensive software on another. They felt the pressure to buy fancy ring lamps, neon lights and professional boom mics so they could arrange a viable streaming setup at home.
But we all agreed that it shouldn’t be that hard or that expensive for a gamer to become a creator.
We simplified it to a mobile app, launched first on iOS, where Powder users can create, edit, and share gaming clips with little to no friction — any game, any platform, any device. Simply put, we’re building the camera of the metaverse.
What we’ve long admired about Apple is the ability to execute on big ideas to surprise and delight users time and again. They set a high standard to aspire to, and we’re humbled that they recognized our young app. We’re in great company along with Komoot, which reimagines biking navigation and adventures; Craft, with its fresh take on notes and documents; Dogo, which simplifies dog training; and Tiimo, a visual way to stay organized.
It comes at a great time as well — our app is now available in six languages across English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, and wherever gamers play, across iOS, Android, and PC (with our web app coming soon).
And we’re still committed to our big vision — building the camera of the metaverse — and executing on it better each day.
